Ready Aim Cloud! CES 2023 First Look: The Asus Vibe CX34 Flip downsizes the gaming Chromebook

The Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip is Asus’ second gaming Chromebook, a 14-inch successor to the larger 16-inch Asus Vibe Chromebook that was released in late 2022. We were able to spend some time with this sleek cloud gaming laptop firsthand at CES 2023.

A Chromebook better equipped for gaming

As a gaming Chromebook, the Vibe CX34 combines the expected lightweight ChromeOS with above-average hardware. The option for up to one 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor – yes, Core i7! – Inside provides the performance needed for cloud gaming services like Nvidia GeForce Now and Amazon Luna. Meanwhile, the Wi-Fi 6E network gives you premium connectivity, and the 2-in-1 design offers flexibility for laptop and tablet gaming, outperforming other gaming Chromebooks with both a touchscreen and multi-mode design .

Other gaming features include a touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, a larger 16:10 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate, which easily rivals the 120Hz output of most cloud gaming services. The 14-inch IPS panel uses Asus’ NanoEdge design and surrounds the display with narrow bezels, giving you the largest screen for the laptop’s size. You’ll notice that before you even turn on this machine.

The keyboard also gets some gamer-friendly touches with multi-color RGB backlighting and anti-ghosting technology. The latter lets you pound the keys as fast as your fingers will allow without sacrificing accuracy due to skipped keypress detection.

As mentioned, the Vibe CX34 has a smaller footprint at 14-inches, making it more portable than the 16-inch models we’ve seen in gaming Chromebooks to date. And with a 2-in-1 convertible design, it can be both a tablet and a laptop…

Those are some great additional features in a standard Chromebook, but in a gaming Chromebook that also make it ideal for Android games powered by ChromeOS. Plus: Productivity and creative use are increased thanks to an included pen that can be stored in the Chromebook case when not in use.

A great looking second gaming Chromebook

After a short hands-on time with the Vibe CX34, I was impressed by its eye-catching design and color scheme. It looks better than most gaming Chromebooks we’ve seen thanks to a pearl white finish and brightly contrasting orange WASD keys on the keyboard.

The Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip will be available with multiple processor options, ranging from a 12th Gen Intel Core i3 to a U-series Core i7 CPU with Intel Iris Xe Graphics. The RAM is 16 GB, with up to 512 GB SSD storage. Asus claims up to 10 hours of battery life on a single charge, but we’ll have to wait for our lab tests to see how closely those claims match reality.

Pricing and availability details have not yet been announced, but we expect to see the new Chromebook in the first quarter of 2023.
