Latest Andrew Tate news: Brothers lose court case over 30-day jail sentence

Andrew Tate exits Bucharest court in handcuffs amid human trafficking allegations

A Romanian official said an appeals court upheld the 30-day arrest of influencer Andrew Tate on charges of organized crime, human trafficking and rape.

Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for Romania’s anti-organized crime agency DIICOT, said the court late Tuesday rejected an appeal by Mr Tate against a judge’s earlier decision to extend his detention from 24 hours to 30 days.

Prosecutors can now request that the 36-year-old former kickboxer and controversial influencer’s detention be extended to 180 days.

Mr Tate and his brother, who were arrested in the same operation, previously appeared at a Bucharest appeals court to request their release after being held since December 29.

On Monday, Mr Tate’s lawyer claimed there was “no evidence” of the allegations against the influencer or his brother.

Eugen Vidineac, who represents both brothers, told the Romanian news site on Monday Gandul The defense had not been given the opportunity to study the prosecutor’s file on the case. The attorney also claimed that Mr Tate’s controversial online personality was not valid evidence at a trial.

Online misogynist Andrew Tate has lost his appeal against a judge’s earlier decision to extend his sentence from 24 hours to 30 days on charges of being part of an organized criminal group, human trafficking and rape.

All four challenged the extension of detention that prosecutors had been granted on December 30.

Tate has been tracking far-right connections for years

Hope not Hate, a British advocacy group, said it had monitored Andrew Tate for years “because of his close ties to the far right”.

It described the influencer as an “extreme misogynist” who holds conspiratorial views in a report it produced last year.

“Our main concern is that his brand of extreme and sometimes violent misogyny will reach young male audiences and that he could serve as a gateway to broader far-right politics,” Hope not Hate said in a statement after Mr Tate was banned from Facebook Parent company Meta in August.

Hope not Hate has compiled a dossier with information on Mr Tate’s far-right connections, including Tommy Robinson and Paul Joseph Watson.

Who is Tristan Tate? Everything we know about Andrew Tate’s brother arrested in human trafficking raid

When influencer Andrew Tate was arrested during a police raid in Romania, he was arrested along with three other people – one of them, his brother.

Tristan Tate, also a former kickboxer turned social media influencer, was arrested in December as part of an investigation into human trafficking and rape by Romania’s anti-organized crime agency Didcot.

The four suspects, including the Tate brothers, will be held for 30 days after a judge extended their original 24-hour detention term, Didcot spokeswoman Ramona Bolla said. Prosecutors said they found six women who had been sexually exploited by the suspects.
